TILSITER

Tilsiter was invented by Dutch immigrants in the city of Tilsit (Eastern Prussia), originally part of the Soviet Union and now part of Lithuania. Nowadays, this cheese is produced by several different cheese makers. The inside of the cheese has a creamy yellow colour, with many dispersed little holes. The texture is very elastic and springy, but quite moist. The cheese has a mild, slightly spicy taste. Tilsiter is a versatile cheese with good melting qualities.
